Journalism shapes how we see gender. Too often, mainstream coverage narrows its lens, spotlighting violence, exclusion, and failure while overlooking the ways people resist, organise, and create change. The Reporting Gender Equity Fellowship (RGEF), was created in 2025 with support from the Solutions Journalism Network (SJN) to expand that lens.
RGEF supports a growing community of journalists across Africa to produce rigorous, evidence-based stories that go beyond exposing violence and exclusion. Through training, mentorship and story grants, fellows gain the tools and editorial support to uncover and document how women, communities and institutions respond to inequality and whether those responses are making a real difference. Their reporting is sparking debate, influencing policy conversations and showing pathways toward greater gender equity.
The work featured here bring reproductive health rights, women’s agency, and resilience into focus, showing both the barriers faced and the strategies, innovations, and solutions that are shaping change.
